Mandalay Vows & Readings
Highly praised within the field of modern calligraphy, Kirsten Burke's vibrant, inventive style finds her in the enviable position of working for such prestigious clients as the Globe Theatre (she is currently developing their merchandising) and the Government of Northern Ireland (for whom she has recently designed and executed a vast mural of vibrantly coloured poetry). Her unmistakable artworks have been exhibited in galleries throughout the country.
Whilst the word calligraphy too often evokes its ancient scribal past, Kirsten has forced her viewers to think again. This is not the formal, restrained lettering of the past. This is work that has enormous energy, by means of which she is able to whisper, sing or shout.
Kirsten trained originally as a graphic designer, subsequently studying calligraphy at post-graduate level. One of only a handful of professional calligraphers, her work is unique, both in its diversity and its awareness of design as well as technique.
Mandalay are delighted to be able to offer you the chance to commission your very own unique Kirsten Burke original. Using the text from either your vows, one of your ceremony readings or simply a text that is sentimental to you, Kirsten will create a colour palette based on your theme colours, and then 'dip' from one coloured ink to another so that the colours become mixed to create different tones.
All we require to start your commission is the wording of your vows or reading and an idea of the colours you would like to be incorporated into the piece. You can then select from our four calligraphy styles, the three layout designs and, if you would like to add a motif, we offer seven for you to choose from, to further personalise your reading.

Calligraphy StylesThere are four calligraphy styles to choose from.
Artwork SizeThe size of the finished piece of artwork plus the mount will usually be 400mm x 500mm across which is a standard size to fit a ready-made frame. However, the size may vary depending upon the number of words in your commission. Motif OptionsIf you used Mandalay for your stationery, you may like to incorporate the motif from your chosen design into your artwork, so that it will match in with your stationery theme. We have 7 different original motif designs for you to choose from, or you may prefer not to add any motif to your artwork at all. If you would like to see a particular design layout, calligraphy style and motif, please contact us and we will email you a mock-up of a previous commission.
